PHOTO of the Day:
Great times at ECMS Visual Arts! Happy Friday everyone. I've witnessed a load of hard working students this week and it is awesome. I've included some pictures below of some of the work that has been happening this semester. We will have some finished artworks to show as well. Parents, if you have not yet connected with your student's SeeSaw portfolio, we have some images of Part 1 of the Line/Balance project already posted. Part 2 images are beginning to pop up today and into the beginning of next week. We have had a little overlap with projects this last week due to loss of days when we had our ice events come through the region. Students have been very patient with each other and the flow of class moving forward. Self Evaluations start Monday for project #1 show casing how students studied used line to create compositions which are Balanced.

It is Wednesday dear followers. Just like most people, art teachers sometimes feel the tug of wear and tear, so I'm feeling a bit tired today but very accomplished. I've been hacking away steadily on my To Do lists hard as can be. I hope and pray y'all are able to do the same thing so when Friday comes along you are able to close out the week like a boss and treat yourself to that hard earned fun Friday dinner.
Thank you to all the parents and prospective students who turned out last night for the ECMS Open House. I truly hope we met and exceeded your expectations. I had a variety of student work out on display in my classroom for all to view and I hope that it did the job. :)
Parents - If you keep hearing that I've sent out email news letters and think to yourself "I got nothing!" Fret not, you may have to check your spam filters or junk folders on your email. I have encountered this myself. Sometime your email server does not recognize an email and send it to another folder.
Students - New Homework is posted on Google Classroom. "Value & Form" readings + questions. Due Monday 1/30. You may have to download the "Google Docs" in order to complete the homework online. TALK TO ME IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE OR CONCERNS!!! :)
Hello and welcome to Art@East Cary. As I am working to continuously build upon the resources and information available on the website, I invite you to come in an explore.
Thank you to all who have visited today. I am very excited to share what is going on in the Visual Arts program here at East Cary and very willing to answer any questions that prospective students and their parents might have. Below is a copy of the handout that will be dispensed at this evenings events. Looking forward to meeting all of you!
I woke up yesterday morning thinking... man! I have loads to get done. So... I got the radio on and David Bowie & Eddie Mercury are singing Under Pressure. EXACTLY HOW I FEEL!!! Imagine that. This morning, however, the Scorpions got me rockin' like a hurricane!
Everyone feels a bit under pressure from time to time, even teachers. When the going gets tough, however, you get yourself going and tackle that inbox like a boss! Today's inbox has me posting this update. I would first like to say how proud I am of my 2nd semester students. They rolled into class this week (Thursday and Friday) after having three days out due to ice and got straight to work. Wow! Very mature and professional, thanks guys!
To keep the flow going, I want to take this time to shout out to Faith (8th), Justine & Titus (7th), and Sonika & Mishelle (6th) for getting their reading homework done early on Google Classroom. Don't forget, it's due Tuesday (1/17) and it will be graded. Prior to the weather disruption, we had been working from Scholastic Art magazine and not all of my classes got that finished due to the weather and technical difficulties. I will be supplementing the grade for that assignment with this homework grade.
Basic reminders are listed below. I also want to mention that on January 24th, ECMS will be hosting an Open House for prospective students. I look forward to meeting all of you who are planning to stop by. Students and Families already signed up to attend ECMS in the fall, this is also a great opportunity to preview the art program and pick up some information for your student to get a head start on being prepared for their art class.

Hellooooo! Yay, days off that kill the routine and send us all thinking of everything except school because, let's face it, there is wonderful slippy slidy stuff outside and hot chocolate and video games to play inside. Whichever you plan to do, be safe, stay warm, and do remember you have school when it's all over.
Now... Down to Business.
Due to the loss of regular instructional days, it is ever more important for students to check their Google Classroom, watch out for announcements and updates on Twitter: @mrs_arnstein OR here on Art@East Cary. If you cannot access your google classroom, please contact me right away. At this time, there is a new assignement to Pre-read two articles for class periods: 2,3,4, & 5 on Visual Balance by 1/17. I will make an announcement in class as a reminder, but if you are reading this, make sure you check it out and get a head start on it.
Be ready to be flexible and be prepared to adjust your own schedule in order to get your school work done. All art classes will be chock full of work over the next couple of weeks and then Track 3 is out while Track 4 is coming in. It is ever more important to stay organized, ask questions, and be ready to work.
I love all the responses to our portfolio app: SeeSaw. Keep posting your awesome works of personal art. For anyone who have not yet, I encourage you to do so. Thank you to all of you parents who who have resonded to the invite to view your student's portfolio. I am in the process of inviting all parents to view their student's Google Classroom. If you have any questions, comments or concerns: contact me.
Be Safe Y'all!!!
Welcome back for 2nd Semester!
I am very excited to meet the new round of students for the second half of the 2016/17 school year. I had a fantastic start to my first year at East Cary Middle and I hope that my first semester students have a great rest of the year. For this coming semester there are a few changes and updates to the Art@East Cary website.
Don't forget, you can follow class updates via my Twitter: @mrs_arnstein
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me: email@example.com
Below is a list of supplies students will need for their art class.
In order to prepare for Art Class this semester, the first week will be a review of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Students will be studying these concepts in all three grade levels. I am very interested to see what my students make.
Have a wonderful first week back!
... updates occur weekly. Check out our Donor's Choose projects...
Devon is a 7th grader who really stepped in up in the last couple of weeks. I caught him diving head first into drawing his still life and doing a great job to capture the range of values as seen in his reference image. As he finished up his work early, I also noticed him assisting other classmates and giving them feedback on their drawings. I am truly amazed at his demonstration of maturity and citizenship towards his peers.
