8th Grade is working on self portraits. Instead of a flat drawing, they are working to create a bust of themselves out of mixed media and paper mache techniques in order to understand proportions of the human head and face. Being my first year at East Cary, this will be the only time I work with these students. I am very please with the work they have put into their artwork and how much they have learned in my classes. I wish I had more time with these students, but I know they will thoroughly enjoy high school art classes if they choose to move on.
7th Grade has been working on painting a space utilizing techniques in drawing linear perspective and painting atmospheric perspective. We spent some time studying Renaissance painters and how linear perspective was developed in order to depict architecture. Through this project, students have had the opportunity to teach each other. Their work and skills are improving and I am very interested to see what they do with these skills in the 8th grade classes.
6th Grade is busy drawing and painting self portraits. They, like the 8th graders, are working to understand proportion. Through this project, these students have been working to enhance their drawing and painting skills. I am very excited to report that each student is working hard, on task, and really doing an excellent job pushing to be more prepared for 7th grade art classes.
