Updates on Value...

8/16/2016

Track 4 has settled into their classes here at East Cary and the ones who have chosen to take an art class are really showing some real promising talent.  I am truly excited to be a part of these individuals' education.  Our current project is the study of Value to create form and Emphasis to create interest in a work of art.  Survey and Drawing students are rendering drawings of still life objects and/or drawing out an abstract of their name and incorporating areas of value.   My Sculpture students are creating a paper sculpture which shows value through cast shadows.

At this time, I wish to remind parents/gardians to check out the button to the right of this page that looks like this:
Parent Contact
If you wish to view your student's work on our SeeSaw, our online portfolio site, please provide me with a working email and I will send you an invitation.

In order to boost the literacy skills of our students here at East Cary, I am taking the initiative to incorporate reading about art, art techniques, and master artists through procuring a class subscription to Scholastic Art magazine.  Please take a moment to check out my Donor's Choose project:  Art and Literacy.

Lastly...  I have posted new Artists of the Week on each of the grade level pages here on Art@East Cary.

    Student Highlight

Devon is a 7th grader who really stepped in up in the last couple of weeks. I caught him diving head first into drawing his still life and doing a great job to capture the range of values as seen in his reference image.  As he finished up his work early, I also noticed him assisting other classmates and giving them feedback on their drawings. I am truly amazed at his demonstration of maturity and citizenship towards his peers.
